Meet Elle

My mother originally wanted to name me Elle, but she also loved the name Ellena. She decided if she named me Ellena instead, my nickname would be Elle. But that never really happened until Jewels By Elle was born. Oh, and Ellena means shining light in Greek. Coincidence? I think not. Anyway, I was 21 years old when I started Jewels By Elle. In December 2014, I graduated a semester early from NYU Steinhardt and I thought there was no better time to fulfill my lifelong dream of creating and curating my own fine jewelry brand.

Who Inspired Me To Start Jewels By Elle

My father, “Isaac the Jeweler,” inspired me to start Jewels By Elle. And for the record, he came way before “Jacob The Jeweler,” like a 2 whole decades before. In my eyes, my father is the most knowledgable, humble and honest jeweler there is. He has taught me everything I know about fine jewelry and the industry.

Growing up, he would surprise me with jewelry for my birthday. By the time I was 8 years old, I had a collection of diamond earrings, gemstone rings, gold bracelets and custom engraved pieces too. By the time I was 10 years old, I was so infatuated with jewelry that I spent my weekends and holidays at his jewelry store, ROMANZA. I would try on stuff and even sell some in between. My form of compensation? More jewelry. 😉 But little did I know at the time that my love for jewelry would grow beyond just wearing it.

What Inspired Me To Start Jewels By Elle

It was December 2003. The Tri County Jewelry Exchange was packed with Christmas shoppers. The song, “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year,” was playing on repeat. Santa Claus was taking photos outside of ROMANZA, right across the holiday raffle table.

After years of growing up in a jewelry store, I finally felt confident enough to approach this couple. Although I couldn’t see over the showcase, I asked them, “Are you looking for anything in particular?” They couldn’t hear me so I asked again, “Can I help you find something?” The man turned to his wife and asked, “Where’s that voice coming from?” I jumped up on a stool and waved, “It’s me Ellena, over here! Are you looking for something in particular?” They looked at each other and laughed in disbelief, but still asked me to show them pieces! Long story short, I sold them a 14 karat gold ankle bracelet and I remember it being one of my proudest moments of all time. I mean, they trusted me to help them. My father trusted me, his 10 year old, to help them too. I wanted to do it again and again because it was the greatest thrill. So that’s exactly what I did…

Blogs By Elle

If you know me at all, you know I am a fairly private person and I don’t normally like to talk about myself or brag. So this whole blogging thing is new territory for me. That being said, blogging isn’t equivalent to bragging, right? For one, I think have too much experience and knowledge of fine jewelry NOT to blog. And besides, my jewelry, the fine craftsmanship and the finer pricing, can speak for themselves. So much for not bragging, huh?

All jokes aside, I hope you enjoyed my very first personal blog post! In my future blog posts, I will tell you about how Jewels By Elle came to life and what I have learned both as a jeweler’s daughter and from starting my own jewelry company. I will also share the best jewelry tips and tricks you have yet to hear about. Let’s explore the fine jewelry world together, from how it’s mined to how it’s worn. Stay tuned – there is so much more to come! Xoxo, Elle
